What I Know About Anzacs

Before we started the Anzac topic we wrote down what we know and what we want t know. When we come to an end of our Anzac topic we then wrote what we know now. This is my one. :)

Anzacs and Us

What Do I Know?

Name Pippa Allsopp

What do I know about Anzac Day and the Anzacs?
What do I want to know?
What  I have learnt
I know that:
  • The poppy represents Anzac day.
  • We remember Anzac to honour those who died.
  • Anzac is about war.
  • New Zealand was involved
  • It was WWl
  • So many went to war because they wanted to help and give the country pride.
I want to know:
  • Why did the war start?
  • Why did NZ want to get involved?
  • Why did few Maori joined?
  • Why were no women allowed to fight?
I have learnt:
  • Gallipoli is were loads of ANZAC’s died.
  • Their is a place called ANZAC cove in honour of the ANZAC’s.
  • The women’s skin turned yellow because when they worked with the bombs all of the toxic air changed their skin colour.
  • The trench was split into loads of different parts.
  • In the trench the dangerous parts were spent the least time by individual soldiers.
  • There was also a war at the bottom of Turkey> ( The final line)
  • Lots of soldiers wrote diaries.
  • Since they weren't allowed to tell the parents were they were based they would write it on the back of the stamp.
  • It cost the USA more than 10 million dollars when they fought WW1
  • The family would make codes with the soldiers so they could communicate freely.
  • There was a man they would go through all the letters with a black pen and cross out all the details that the soldiers were not allowed to share.
  • Few maori joined because they didn't believe in fighting to solve problems.

Camp Letter

This is my camp letter I wrote to Mr.O'Rourke. I wrote to him to say thank you and to show that I was grateful that he came:

Room 10
Havelock North Intermediate
Nimon St
Havelock North
30 March 2015

Dear Mr O'Rourke

I would like to thank you for helping Nepia house on the fantastic trip to Weka Point. Without having you there the camp might have not gone ahead.
I would like to thank you on behalf of Nepia House for coming along and having fun with the us.

You were one of the few parents that joined in with the kids and when you joined in and played Archery Soft, you saw your arrow zoom past.

You helped all the kids whenever you could and tried your best to get involved in everything.

You were definitely one the favourite parents among the kids. For example when Zhayne had an accident you went for help and made sure someone was on their way. My teacher said to me that you also where always there for extra support and help. So when we were playing in the water you were always on the side lines making sure everyone was safe and happy.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate what you did and that camp wouldn't be able to go ahead without you.

Yours sincerely

Pippa
